Our Mission
The goal of our nonprofit organization is to make STEM education available and cost-free to everyone. We believe everyone should have the chance to explore their potential and follow their interests in STEM subjects, regardless of their upbringing or financial position. We work to remove the obstacles, such as a lack of resources, exposure, and socioeconomic considerations, that prevent people from accessing high-quality STEM education. By offering free and open access to STEM education, we hope to motivate the following generation of creative thinkers and problem solvers, and so help create a more just and prosperous society. Our commitment to making STEM education available to everyone stems from the idea that education is a fundamental human right.
Identifying a Problem
In March of 2023, the founders saw a clear discrepancy between the quality of STEM education where they lived in Silicon Valley as compared to other cities in the US, and they felt that the opportunity to gain a high-quality STEM education was not equal for all students in America.
Our Solution
The next month, the founders created ByteBuilders, a student-led non-profit organization aimed at providing everyone with free, high-quality STEM education, bridging the gap in areas without it.
Gaining Membership
As ByteBuilders got started, they first teamed up with the Cupertino Union School District, targeting elementary and middle school students in local areas. June 2023 marked their first batch of enrollment, and work began on creating a robust curriculum for students.
"Students First" Mentality
After carefully building an executive team, and creating the curriculum, ByteBuilders launched its first summer session. Teachers came up with fun, and educational lessons for students, emphasizing a students-first mentality and fostering a creative learning environment for all.
Building a Community
To create a community and celebrate the end of summer classes, ByteBuilders hosted its first-ever summer showcase event! Parents and students were invited to see everything ByteBuilders students had achieved that summer, as well as hear from Audi and UCLA software specialists while immersing themselves in CS and ByteBuilders' culture.
Expanding Horizons
In January of 2024, ByteBuilders hit its 1000 member milestone. As more and more students joined the organization, ByteBuilders wanted to expand the opportunities for its students, so the ByteBuilders Research Initiative was created.
Future Goals
Today ByteBuilders is looking forward to extending its roots outside of the United States, impacting the lives of students all over the globe. Its student leaders are looking to spread ByteBuilders' mission in all the ways they can imagine.
